This summer, Breakthrough of Greater Philadelphia hosted an exciting and dynamic in-person academic enrichment program. On June 14, we welcomed sixteen teaching fellows to begin their two-week instructional training and to prepare for the arrival of their students. And on June 29, more than 90 students in grades 7-9 joined us at Germantown Friends School for six weeks of learning, growing, fun, and friendships.
During this time, students engaged in mathematics, science, writing, and literature. In addition, students were given the opportunity to choose two electives that ranged from Introduction to French to jump rope. Fridays were all about fun. Breakthrough students were given the opportunity to explore golf or art in the morning. In the afternoon, they participated in coding and capoeira. Each day we were sure to sprinkle in some fun activities, such as Boss (blowing off some steam) time, all-school meeting, and Wacky Wednesdays. The summer came to an end on August 6 with our celebration day.
