Fall program is off to a great start. On September 22, Breakthrough students were able to enjoy, as part of an ongoing partnership with Cliveden, the Chew historical site located in Germantown. Breakthrough and Cliveden staff developed math, science, and language arts lessons using the lesson study model to engage students in interactive context-based historical learning.
Our goal is to incorporate the complex history of Philadelphia as it relates to this country’s founding and the struggle for liberty for all.
Students were able to tour Cliveden and learned about the varying perspectives and life experiences of all its residence, including members of the Chew family and the enslaved persons and indentured servants who lived and worked in the home in the 18th and 19th centuries.
