Summer Homestay Hosts Needed!

Help make it possible for out-of-town college students to teach and mentor Breakthrough’s young students this summer.  We are seeking friendly individuals or families willing to provide living space for one or more student teachers.

What do I need to provide to the teacher(s)?

You are asked to provide a welcoming environment, a bedroom and possibly some meals to one or more students.  This is also an excellent opportunity for families who may be traveling this summer and are seeking a summer house-sitter.

Will I be compensated?

Yes.  For tax purposes, we will provide you with a letter estimating the value of serving as a homestay at $1,200 per student.

When will the teachers arrive?

Teacher training begins on June 19, 2009.  Teachers will likely need to arrive by the evening of June 18th.

How long will the teacher(s) stay?

Breakthrough's summer program ends on August 14th.  Teachers will leave on or soon after that date.

Will I receive an orientation?

Yes, an orientation will be held in June.  You will receive important information about the homestay program, and have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss concerns with Breakthrough staff and other homestay volunteers.

I'm interested.  What should I do now?

If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact Farish Sawyer, Senior Program Director, at the Breakthrough office at 215-951-2398 or by emailing her at fsawyer@breakthroughphilly.org.  Let her know how many teachers you might host (1, 2, 3), if you have any pets, and any other special circumstances.
