Jared
Jared grew up in the West Oak Lane section of Philadelphia. When he came to teach at Breakthrough the summer before his senior year at Temple University, he hadn’t thought much about a career in education. But, he had such a good experience he returned to volunteer in the school year program.
Now, along with his BA from Temple, Jared holds a MSEd from University of Pennsylvania and teaches at Ethel Allen Elementary in North Philly. He says Breakthrough gave him great preparation, from learning how to design creative effective lessons to keeping students actively involved.
Jared says, “If you are looking for a challenging rewarding career, teaching is both. Breakthrough is a great place to begin -- an exciting, upbeat environment. If you aren't sure you want to teach, it's worth looking into. You may end up enjoying it as much as I did.”
