Rustin

rustin
Rustin admits that he was a bit of a nerd in 6th grade, so when he heard Breakthrough offered interesting classes that would also be fun, he wanted to go. However his first impression was “wow, this is more work than I expected.”  But it was worth it. Rustin says the program “helped me a lot academically, and it made me discipline myself to spend more time on the subjects I found difficult.” That discipline has paid off.

Rustin came to us in 1995, earned admission to Carver High School in 1997 and left with a $16,000 John McKee Scholarship, given to academically driven fatherless boys starting college.  In 2005 Rustin received his BS in medical technology from Gwynedd Mercy College -- an opportunity his mother never had.

Today, Rustin supervises a vaccine lab at Merck Pharmaceuticals, and has worked part-time as a microbiologist at Hahnemann Hospital.  He hopes to move his way up the ranks at Merck and earn his MBA.
