Our Programs

 

Breakthrough recruits students in the sixth grade and delivers six years of academic programming that prepares them for entrance in selective high schools – and ultimately college. Through two primary programs, the Middle School Young Achievers Program and the High School Success Program, Breakthrough’s students receive academic enrichment, resources, and supports that help them realize their academic potential.

 

Middle School Young Achievers Program

 

  • Provides year-round, tuition-free, academic enrichment including a six-week summer program and an after-school program.
  • Delivers vigorous, skill-based curriculum designed to prepare students for entrance and success in selective high schools.
  • Operates on a 6:1 student to teacher ratio, allowing a level of attention impossible in most educational setting.
  • Challenges students beyond academics by integrating service learning and leadership training.
  • Combines core academic classes - Math, Science, Language Arts, Social Studies and Foreign Language - with HIgh School Prep and Leadership, and engaging electives such as Art, Dance, Athletics, and Debate.
  • Assists students and their families in identifying and applying to the city's top high schools, including magnet, independent, catholic, and charter schools. 

 

High School Success Program

 

  • Delivers academic supports year-round to students across high school.
  • Features dynamic summer programs that merge academics, college preparation, and leadership and professional development.
  • Offers tutoring, homework help, test preparation, college guidance and specialized workshops during after school hours.
  • Links students with academic mentors who help guide them across high school and prepare them for college.
